Protection/Restraining Orders
Judge's Table

If you are a victim of domestic violence or harassment then we can help you seek a restraining order to protect yourself or others around you. There are two types of restraining orders in Minnesota: (1) Orders for Protection and (2) Harassment Restraining Orders.

For Orders for Protections, the domestic abuse must be committed against a family or household member. Domestic abuse can mean physical harm, bodily injury, or assault; fear of imminent physical harm, bodily injury, or assault; or terroristic threats, criminal sexual conduct, or interference with an emergency call.

For Harassment Restraining Orders, you can file the petition against anyone (does not have to be a family or household member). Harassment can mean a single incident of sexual assault; stalking; distributing private information without permission; or repeated intrusive or unwanted acts, words, or gestures that result in an adverse effect on the safety, security, or privacy of another person; or targeted residential picketing.
